Alexander Wang for Balenciaga

Only 28 years old, Alexander Wang has been named the head designer for Balenciaga after, 40 year old, Nicolas Ghesquiere announced that he is moving on. Ghesquiere, who has upheld the Balenciaga Brand for 15 years brought a modern sense to the house and has grown to become one of the most influential designers in Paris. He maintained his sense of creativity but also upheld the Balenciaga marks in his designs like the silhouettes with broad shoulders.

Wang, on the other hand, is more known for his street and athletic look. He is famous for his youthful followers in New York and his futuristic couture on the catwalk but with less experience, Alexander Wang has big shoes to fill. Alexander Wang launched his brand in 2007 and by the age of 25, he was able to reach a turnover of about 25 million.

Wang's name has been tossed around before (Dior!) to head design houses but this is officially his first hit outside his label. How will Wang bring his "off-duty model look" to the Balenciaga brand?!?! Only one way to find out.... :)

This move to Paris will be a great opportunity for Wang to diversity his portfolio and expand his career.
